It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the Torrington Country Club
web site. My hopes are that you will find it useful and informative whether you are
accessing the site as a visitor, someone interested in membership or a Club member
looking for current activities information. For a visitor, please do not hesitate to
browse the site and especially to take the Course Tour under the Golf link.
Here you will find a description of each golf hole with several photos of the
course and the club facilities. A dining room menu is also provided as a
representation of the lunch and dinner fare offered at our excellent dining facility.
The Torrington Country Club prides itself as being a first-rate golfing venue. The
Club was established in 1929 and has become the premiere 18-hole private golf
course in Northwestern Connecticut. The Club is known for its traditional design,
true-rolling greens, demanding shot accuracy and fairways that require thoughtful shot
preparation. The course is of average length but the difficulty factors result from the rare
luxury of level lies and the feature of elevated greens that severely punish the errant left or
right shot to the green. The Club’s signature hole is the 155 yard par 3, 11th hole that
features an elevated tee box that requires an accurate shot over a spectacular reflective
pond once again to an elevated green that is well bunkered. The most difficult rated hole is
the par 4, 4th hole that demands a good tee shot in order to have any chance of reaching
the green in regulation. Once the green is reached, one is faced with the nuances of a
large but extremely demanding putting surface.
The course is highly regarded in terms of the quality and playability by the Connecticut State Golf Association and by the golf professionals in the State. The Torrington Country Club
has been the site of the 1994 and 2006 Connecticut Amateur Championship, the 2005
Women’s Amateur Championship, the 1999 New England Women’s Championship.
Incidentally, the 1994 State Amateur was won by J. J. Henry who is currently on the PGA
tour.
Following a round of golf, patrons may saunter into the magnificent clubhouse for a
relaxing lunch either in the dining room, the lounge or the covered outdoor patio.
